The near-perfect layout of the venue has played an important role in the popularity of Glasgow's Sub Club. The enduring appeal is aided by a low-ceiling, DJ booth near level with the dance-floor and an pristine sound-system which consistently provides the ideal backdrop for a loyal, clued-up crowd.
Highlife return to the Subbie following our epic launch night last month. For those who came down, we're ready to do it all again. For those who missed it, we're returning to Africa and will be playing a range of genres across the Afrofuturism spectrum: kwaito, afrobeat, cumbia, jackin chicago house, detroit techno more...the night will feature a four hour jam session between AUNTIE FLO (Huntleys and Palmers) and ESA WILLIAMS (Rememory / Sensu / Subculture), with live percussion, turntables, fx and more.
Auntie Flo (aka Brian d'Souza) is blowing up right now following the release of his second single 'Oh My Days' on Huntleys and Palmers, which has received kudos and airplay from the likes of Joy Orbison, Ben UFO, Jackmaster and Pearson Sound and plays on Radio 1, RinseFM and more. Pearson liked it so much he opened his mainstage Sonar set with it and then asked if he could remix it (release forthcoming on H&P).

After blowing us away as a guest at Highlife back in May, Esa Williams aka Mervin Granger has become an integral part of Highlife. Fusing immaculate deck skills with live percussion, Esa effortlessly mixes music from his South African homeland with deep house bangers more used to airing at his other residencies - Subculture and Sensu. Check out his productions on Fina and his own Rememory music.
