Osunlade interview from Djoon

The team from Djoon have invited the prolific New York based producer, DJ and label boss Osunlade to spin at the club on boxing day. This ex Sesame Street presenter has been releasing deep house tracks on his Yoruba label for over a decade. Find out what he has in store for us this Friday live on Awdio.com straight from Djoon Paris. Read More

You play the December 26 at Djoon, one day after Christmas, what gifts
will you bring to the parisian crowd?

Osunlade: Some new tunes of myself and the label and some nice techy stuff!!

D: Do you prepare your sets or do you trust your instincts and energy of
the crowd?

O: I never prepare sets beforehand, I only use the energy of the moment to
create the mood..reading the crowd is the
best skill a DJ has, so I try to use that as my primary tool.

D: Do you listen a lot of electronic music? And do you see yourself as an
electronic music producer?

O: I don't listen to much electronic music, mostly jazz and folk are what I
listen to, I do however consider myself as an electronic producer but not primarily.

D: What inspires you that a track like"Mirror Dance" by Afefe Iku is an
anthem for the super clubs of Ibiza playlisted by minimal superstar DJs?

O: I appreciate the fact that many DJ's known and unknown embraced Mirror
Dance, its a great honor when this happens as it shows the diversity of the music as well as the common grown of all demographics.

D: What are your plans for the future? Is the Burning Man* a
part of your plans for next summer?

O: My plans are to simply continue on my path creating the music I believe in
and yes burning man is a staple in my life, I will attend it every year until the day I die.

Sunburn -Asia’s biggest...

For most Goa still conjures up images of neo-hippies, drums and dredds. But that has all changed as the Sunburn festival takes to the white sand beaches and sets up camp, of the big laser and sound-system variety. For the past 2 years Sunburn has brought Indian and international DJs to perform at this 3 day (27th-29th December) electronic music festival attracting both a local and international audience. Both the North and South stage will be streaming live on Awdio!  Read more

This festival crosses boundaries and erases all ideas of Goa as a white hippy camp for neo travelers. They’re still around but they are just a few faces in a diverse crowd. This is their welcome call ‘Calling all fearless warriors, emotionally stunted corporate sucks, internet tycoons, recently single ready to mingle, goody-two-shoes, rebels with and without a cause, black sheep, white sheep; this means YOU!! Hell we’re even calling the Little Green Men out in space if they can hear us!!’
This is all very well but what about us, the people who are freezing their arses off in the wintery side of the world? Have no fear, Awdio is here, so turn the heaters up and warm those frozen toes to the sounds of Norman Doray, Pearl, Armin Van Buuren (to keep up the Goa trance tradition), Gordon Edge, Roger Sanchez and many local DJs.

1 Night, 1 Club, 50 DJs!

How many DJs does it take to spin a disco ball? Well in the case of Favela Chic Paris’ Feliz Natal charity do tonight, (22nd December) it takes 50. Sounds like a circus? Well actually that’s exactly the idea as this is part of a ‘Clowns Sans Frontiers’ (Clowns without frontiers) initiative. Read more

So how exactly will the fit 50 DJs behind the decks and will they all have time to play more than one record? No point going into the logistics, they know what they’re doing and it’s all for a good cause so either go along and enjoy the show or listen from afar on Awdio.com. Amongst the brave 50 are Ariel Wizman, Beat Torrent, DJ Geru, Jess & Crabbe, Siskid, Remy Kolpa Kopoul and of course all the Favela Chic residents.

Bed, always cutting edge!

Bed Supperclub, Bangkok recently released its long awaited double CD compilation album. «Cuts» inspired by «Yoko Ono's Cut Piece», an interactive living art that has become a signature performance in the restaurant This features an Asian woman sitting, dressed in a kimono, while the audience cuts out pieces of her clothing. «Cuts» draws its mood and tone from this show and injects its essence into a soundtrack destined to be heard at dinner parties and late night gatherings around the world, giving everyone the chance to a cut of Bed home with them. The soulful sounds of Kenny...

With Christmas just around the corner, it’s a perfect time to enjoy the gospel inspired house music of Jersey, USA born ’King of gospel’ Kenny Bobien. Not the usual image of someone on the house-music scene, as this singer, songwriter and producer is also a Pastor at his church. When he’s not looking after his family and his church community he has produced uplifting tracks such as ‘Hanging with the homeboys’, ‘You are my friend’, ‘Brighter days’ and ‘Reach’. If you’re in Paris get down to Djoon on Friday night (18th December) and the rest of the world can hear him sing live on Awdio.com. Here’s a little taste of what’s to come. See More

Meet The Residents - Paris Rex...

The first in a series of interviews with the resident DJs who work hard to maintain the sound quality of their club. We always hear about the famous guests who are invited to spin at clubs, but it is the work and energy of the resident DJ that makes the club what it is. So you are invited to meet the residents. Some clubs have been so associated with their resident DJs that when they weren’t there anymore in was never the same. The Rex Club in Paris is no exception. See more

We have taken advantage of the fact that Rex club resident Jennifer Cardini will be spinning at the Rex and live on Awdio.com (18th December) to show you this interview made by the Rex team about their resident DJs Jennifer Cardini, D'julz and Cholé who all have their own successful careers, but are all very closely linked with this club.

Never mind The Sex Pistols...

Tonight (Friday 11th December), Glen Matlock who was once a teenage Sex Pistol, will be playing songs from the legendary British punk band The Sex Pistols. He needs little introduction, as well as penning the anthem Pretty Vacant, arguably the most famous punk song ever, Glen wrote the music to all the Sex Pistols classics, including Anarchy In The UK and God Save The Queen. He is the original punk rocker ! So what’s he doing at Nublu the New York jazz jam club ? Well that’s the beauty of Nublu it’s full of surprises. Read more

Here is an extract from Glen Matlock’s book ‘I was a teenage Sex Pistol’ depicting the life of a young Grundy who found himself in the whirlwind of punk and worldwide success.

‘Grundy just wound him up. Keep going chief, you've got another five seconds. Say something outrageous. So Steve told him he was a dirty fucker, a fucking rotter. (Rotter? that one cracked me up). Grundy turned to the camera. Well that's it for tonight. I'll be seeing you soon. I hope I'm not seeing you again. (That was to us). From me though, goodnight. And that was it.’

However, the Sex Pistols represent only a fraction of what Glen has achieved. His next band, the Rich Kids, put out one of the most influential albums of the late 70s, Ghosts Of Princes In Towers, packed full of rock ‘n’ pop gems. Working with Iggy Pop, (who recorded Glen’s song Ambition), during the 80s, kept him in the limelight and at the top of his game.
